Heat-Wave Holiday

Greetings from Europe!

I am currently on vacation with my family and although it's absolutely splendid to be in full-blown vacation mode, it is particularly HOT.

And no, I'm not talking 25, 28, or even 30 degrees. Poland in particular has had the hottest summer that I can ever remember. And I'm talking 35 degrees Celsius regular temperatures, without even additional humidity. This kind of heat no doubt is nice at first but can also become a bit exhausting.

From a fashion perspective, only the lightest materials will suffice in this kind of hot and heavy situation, or in the case of a beach, less clothing is better!

You also really need to stick to basic things like drinking water and taking a nap or resting in a cool environment. Heat exhaustion is definitely a real thing. So without further adieu, here are my top 3 tips to survive the heat!

1) Linen clothing.

Linen is an amazing material for this kind of weather. It's light so your body can breathe and not feel suffocated by certain materials like polyesters or synthetically produced materials. It's quality also helps because it fits nicely on just about anybody, whether it be a dress you wear around your house, shorts on a walk on the beach over a swimsuit, or even a fancier dress for an evening cocktail and stroll around town.

2) Stay hydrated.

This is a pretty important one and also a bit tricky because if you're like me, you'll forget to drink and develop a very unpleasant headache. For some reason, I don't feel super thirsty enough to go and get a drink of water and headaches like these end up creeping up on me. So it's really important to either have a water bottle always by your side, particularly if you're exercising or walking a long distance, or stop for a quick lemonade or drink on the beach (probably not wise for it to be alcohol, as it actually ends up dehydrating you more).

3) Siesta!

I'm not sure if you know this, but certain countries like Spain, Italy, France, Greece and other night-life countries actually have breaks in the day where restaurants are closed for a certain interval in the day, and reopen in the cooler evening. I have a feeling it's because the heat reaches a point that unbearable, even for the most determined of tourists. I remember specifically walking around Bari, Italy and stepping into the cold stone shelter of a church without much more relief because of how hot the air was at the time. And it felt like we were literally the only ones in the street, like a complete ghost-town. So if you're feeling sleepy and you have the time, give your body that hour or half an hour nap to relax, refresh and recharge for a fun-filled evening and night out!

That's all for now, so hope you can carry on with your staycation, vacation or weekday happily and healthily!
